Care Guide – How to Take Care of Your Glasses

With proper care — and a little love — American Optical frames can stand the test of time while preserving their quality.

Care Tips

Clean daily smudges with the lens cloth provided with the glasses

Use mild dish soap and lukewarm water (moisten the frame beforehand) to clean your glasses. Pay special attention to the nose pads and temple tips to remove oily residue

Dry with a lint-free microfiber cloth

Handle gently to preserve the alignment of the frame

Use both hands to put on and remove your glasses. Using only one hand may, over time, affect the frame’s alignment and fit

Limit exposure to salt water and chlorine

Always store your glasses in a case when not in use

Do not use paper towels to clean the frame or wipe the lenses. Although they may feel soft, they are abrasive and can cause damage over the years

Do not use clothing to clean the lenses; skin oils and textile fibers can cause micro-scratches

Do not use hand sanitizer gel to clean your glasses

Do not use cleaners that contain ammonia

Do not leave your glasses in a very hot or very cold car. Extreme temperature changes can damage both the lenses and the frame

Never place your glasses on a surface with the lenses facing down, to avoid scratching

Do not leave your glasses unprotected when they are not being used

Do not use only one hand to put on or remove your glasses

Do not wear your glasses on your head: this can distort the frame and require more frequent adjustments
